This Clio V6 Is in collectors condition having travelled just 15,150 miles from new, The Phase 1 versions ( Noted for their tricky handling ) were built by TWR In Sweden, for the Phase II model the V6 engine was given to Porsche Engineering to extract more power, achieved mainly in the head and manifold areas. There were also major revisions to the chassis, which included an increased wheel base and track together with revised gearing. Other comfort features were added such as auto headlights and cruise control. The later model also had a new gearbox, harder-edged styling and improvements to the driveability and handling with much Improved suspension. They were also all built by RenaultSport in Dieppe.
Individually numbered 133 of just 354 RHD cars built exclusivity is assured. This example being finished In Metallic Titanium Silver ( just 37 In this colour ) with full Red Hide seats (The actual colour is darker than shown in pics) it certainly looks spectacular. Like Volkswagen with the Buggatti Veyron, Its rumored that It cost Renault many times the selling price to develope and produce each car!
The engine's just marvellous, strong throughout the rev-range and serving up a great noise, and the throttle response is very positive, too. The six-speed 'box has quite a slick shift, the brakes are strong and you can really lean on them with confidence on the approach to corners. Ah, yes, corners - the Clio V6 takes them better than David Bekham. The steering gives adequate feel and isn't kicked all over the shop by potholes and cambers. With its wide track and relatively short wheelbase, the Clio turns-in with enthusiasm. There's plenty of mid-corner grip, too. At corner exit, traction is excellent because of the location of the engine. Stability is good too.
This example has a FSH as you would expect the last one at 12,846 miles when Cam belts were changed. A nicer example would be difficult to find!
The Clio V6 is approaching cult status (The Editor of Evo Mag has just bought one himself) as production of these rare and beautiful cars has now ceased. The long-term reviews in Evo magazine and other publications and TV features were enthusiastic for both the Mark 1 and Mark 2 versions, and Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson commented "In my perfect ten car garage I would definitely have one of these - no question".
