The Evo's new die-cast aluminium 4B11 engine was designed to deliver greater torque at lower rpm and more power in standard form than the outgoing 4G63 motor. Combine this with a 12kg weight saving over the old cast-iron version and you've got a lower C-of-G and great basic template for some serious tuneability. The power delivery is smoother than the outgoing motor and there's less turbo lag either.

One of the leading motor magazines said when testing against the Evo IX "In many ways, the Evo X feels entirely dissimilar to the IX on the track (as well as on the road). Whereas the IX is frenetic, raw, and noisy, the X is calm, cool, and collected.

The steering, still with a quick ratio it feels responsive and linear, yet no longer transmits harshness or bump steer through the helm as does the IX. Further, the X's five-speed offers an easier action and better shift quality; its larger Brembos, which allowed for braking much deeper into turns, and felt stronger and easier to modulate than before; its ride no longer prompts a visit to the dentist.

In light of the IX, the X is more refined than a packet of white sugar. The fundamental Evo traits-turbo engine, sublime chassis, and all-wheel-drive grip-remain in the X and are more capable than ever.

A factory Alarm system and Imobiliser is backed up with a Cobra Track System and the balance of the 3 year manufacturers warranty remains.
