As with every Evolution model the latest one has some considerable improvements over the last, here's an overview of what's packing more punch and how the the Evo VIII is the best one yet.

 

Front
Enlarged intercooler opening
Enlarged hood air scoop opening
New shape under spoiler

Rear
Super light weight full carbon-fibre rear boot spoiler (approx. 2kg lighter than Evolution VII ABS resin spoiler) and stronger construction of the middle wing

Wheels
ENKEI brand design Alloy wheels (same brand as WRC car) which is lighter approx. 0.8kg per rim than previous wheels

Engine
Max. power remains the same at 276bhp while torque is increased to 289ft/lbs
Engine has been made lighter
Fuel tank : GSR 55 litres (+ 7 litres more than Evo VII) RS 50l (+2l more than Evo VII)

Transmission
New six speed manual gearbox
1st: Same level of overall gear ratio as Evo VII GSR 5speed to maintain optimum acceleration
2nd-4th: Same level of total gear ratio as five speed super close (Hi Ratio trans) in motor sports to effect outstanding mid range acceleration
5th: Set up lower than the the five speed super close (Hi Ratio trans) for best ratio with 2nd-4th
6th: Set up higher geared than Evo VII GSR to save fuel in top gear cruising and effect a higher top speed 
The six speed transmission is only 10kg heavier than the preceding five speed.
Remarks: Evo VII Super Close (Hi Ratio) five speed is standard for Evolution RS

Super AYC
Changes of the internal design of the AYC diff increases usable torque 1- 6 times over the previous model in Gymkhana or Circuit.

Weight
GSR(six speed) : Total only 3kg heavier due to lightening of some parts
RS(five speed) : Even with ACD fitted, Front helical LSD (standard), the overall design is approximately 19kg lighter than Evo VII with manufacture option (ACD etc)

Suspension
Suspension adjustment made easier and more effective
Increase in rear shock absorber load
